As I reported on July 7, PMI Nutrition International, a division of Land O' Lakes, had recalled some lots of LabDiet and Mazuri exotic pet foods, due to elevated levels of vitamin D detected in products made at the company's Richmond, Ind., plant.
Now comes word that the recall has been expanded to include even more LabDiet and Mazuri products, as well as some Purina and Feed Solutions (also subsidiaries of Land O' Lakes) products and AquaMax fish foods.
Elevated vitamin D levels can have serious affects on certain pets. In fact, there have been reports of small bird and guinea pig deaths from pet parents who fed these to their animals.
For detailed information about and full lists of the exact products being recalled, which are epic, please see these FDA press releases:
Once again, the company is asking retailers to remove these items from their shelves, and to alert your customers to stop feeding these to their pets.Photo courtesy of Yoko Nekonomania/flickr
